　　my definition of success

　　it is easy to describe success in terms of money, fame and reputation. but i believe that success is not external. i believe that success comes from within. my definition of success is to be true to yourself, and be true to others. that means, that you must cherish your personal ideal even in the face of adversity. i also believe that success is not discriminatory. success is not restricted to such a class of people, in fact, it may be achieved by any person irrespective of his race, creed, gender and economic background. a good example of success is that of beethoven. he is one of the world's most famous composers, yet he was deaf. he could not hear the majestic pieces of music that he created. yet, in the face of this adversity, he was able to maintain his ideals--that of composing music.

　　to exemplify what success means to me, i pose a question to all of you. what brings us together here today? i believe that it is the beauty of the spoken word. the effect of pause and the sound of rhetoric are unique to the spoken word. i believe the beauty of the spoken word is even stronger for those who have difficulty in expressing themselves. these people are reclusive and had their emotions hidden within them. i once went to australia and i saw two pictures, once was drawn by a normal child, the other was drawn by a child with social inhibitions. the picture drawn by the normal child was simple and plain. the other was life-like, full of details and imagination. what this shows is that these are ideas, emotions and feelings that are locked internally in these　children.

　　my ideal is to be the key, spreading the beauty of the spoken words to these children. these children have been neglected, but i feel that i can and should help these children to find themselves and be able to express themselves.

　　i realize that this is a difficult task, and there are many obstacles on the way. but i believe in my ideals and i will stick to them--even in the face of adversity. we should never have a premature abortion of ideals--let the child, let our ideals, stand the challenge. for a life without ideals is not living.

　　常言道,”一分耕耘,一分收获.”有了辛勤的劳动,我们才会有成果,不劳而获的事情是不存在的.正如我校的体育健儿们,能在镇运动会上取得优异的成绩就是他们勤奋的结果.今年运动会上，一刻东方的星划破了长空,在空中打下了一个硕大的惊叹号.运动健儿的赫赫战功使其,以巨人身姿屹立与我校上空.我知道我们的同学是有愚公般的百折不挠的韧劲蕴含着惊人潜能.长江后浪推前浪,这是我们雄心,青出于蓝胜于蓝,这就是我们的豪情.这样的回报时我们的所得.

　　是的,勤奋属于珍惜时间,爱惜光阴的人,属于脚踏实地,一丝不苟的人,属于坚持不懈,持之以恒的人,属于勇于探索,勇于创新的人.因为勤奋,安徒生从一个鞋匠的儿子成为童话王;因为勤奋，罗曼罗兰获得了二十年心血的结晶《约翰克里斯朵夫》；因为勤奋，巴尔扎克给人类留下了宝贵的文学遗产《人间喜剧》；还是由于勤奋，爱迪生才有一千多种伟大的科学发明；爱因斯坦才得以创立震惊世界的相对论；中国古人才给我们留下悬梁刺股、凿壁偷光、囊萤映雪的千古美谈。

　　爱因斯坦曾经说过：“在天才和勤奋之间我毫不迟疑的选择勤奋”；卡来而更激励我们：“天才就是无止境的刻苦勤奋的能力。”

　　正处于学习阶段的我们，就应该具有像爱迪生、巴尔扎克那样的刻苦努力、不懈追求得精神，因为只有这样，我们才能实现自己的目标，在追逐梦想的舞台上一显身手。在学习的道路上我们只有勤奋踏实的将一点一滴的知识掌握，才能最终走向成功。若是连学都不想学，吝啬与付出自己的劳动，怎么会学懂知识，掌握知识，有怎么会品学兼优，出类拔萃呢？一分耕耘一分收获，在耕耘的时候，我们就应该付出辛勤的劳动，收获的时候才会有满意的果实，才会成果丰硕，人生能有几回搏？此时不搏何时搏。人生能有几个花季，雨季？过去的就没法改变了。所谓“黑发不知勤学早，百首方悔读书迟。”就是这个道理。

　　同学们，努力学习，相互友爱，用学问把自己武装起来，这样，你才会使出类拔萃的。

　　belief in yourself is the secret of success

　　from the moment we are born, our destiny had been set. it is the start of our life. as a little child, we go to school and are curious to everything in the world.

　　when we get older, we tend to understand the function in this world.

　　we start to think, sometimes wonder about life. next thing we know, we are growing up. the world is changing, and our life is changing everyday.

　　right now, this particular moment in our life, we think again.

　　we have we done in our life?

　　are we successful?

　　are we rich?

　　are we happy? and flashbacks starts, the memories took charge of our brain.

　　we reflect to ourselves, we question ourselves.

　　why are we not successful?

　　why are we not rich?

　　why are we not happy?

　　then, we need to ask how.

　　how to be successful?

　　how to be rich?

　　how to be happy?

　　with the questions, we figure out the answers. one of the dominating techqniue to be successful is first start from yourself. believe in yourself. if you don"t believe in what you can do, then who else?

　　if you don"t care about yourself, then who else? trust your feelings, believe that you can do it. and as long as you hold that thought, nothing, nothing can stop you.

　　the successful future right ahead of you are led by a pathway called belief.

　　today i am very glad to be here to share with you my ideas of success. what is success? it is what everyone is longing for.sometimes success would be rather simple. winning a game is success; getting a high grade in the exam is success; making a new friend is success; even now i am standing here giving my speech is somehow also success.

　　however, as a person"s whole life is concerned, success becomes very complicated. is fortune success? is fame success? is high social status success? no, i don’t think so. i believe success is the realization of people"s hopes and ideals.nowadays, in the modern society there are many people who are regarded as the successful. and the most obvious characteristics of them are money, high position and luxurious life. so most people believe that s success and all that they do is for this purpose. but the problem is wether it is real success. we all know there are always more money, higher position and better condition in front of us. if we keep chasing them, where is the end? what will satisfy us at last? therefore, we can see, to get the real success we must need something inside, which is the realization of people"s hopes and ideals.

　　different people have different ideas about success; cause people"s hopes and ideas vary from one another. but i am sure every success is dear to everybody, cause it is not easy to come by, cause in the process of our striving for success, we got both our body and soul tempted, meanwhile we are enlightened by the most valuable qualities of human beings: love, patient, courage and sense of responsibility. these are the best treasures. so now i am very proud that i have this opportunity to stand here speaking to all of you. it is my success, cause i raise up to challenge my hope.

　　what is success? everyone has his own interpretation as i do. but i am sure every success leads to an ever-brighter future. so ladies and gentlemen, believe in our hopes, believe in ourselves, we, every one of us, can make a successful life!
